Recreation Grounds & Green Spaces

Old Basing Recreation Ground

Old Basing Recreation Ground is the parish’s largest outdoor leisure and sports destination, providing a vibrant space for recreation, wellbeing and community activity.
Maintained and supported by Old Basing & Lychpit Parish Council, the site offers a wide range of facilities for residents and visitors of all ages, including football pitches, tennis courts, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), children’s play areas, outdoor fitness equipment, open green spaces and picnic areas.
The Recreation Ground is also home to a number of local sports clubs and community events throughout the year, making it a valued hub for sport, play and social connection. Whether you're looking to exercise, relax, spend time with family, or take part in organised activities, Old Basing Recreation Ground provides a welcoming and accessible setting at the heart of our community.

Public Toilets

There are Public Toilets in the Pavilion building (including baby change facilities).  These are open as follows:

  • Summer (1 May – 30 September): 8.30 am – 8.30 pm
  • Winter (1 October – 30 April): 8.30 am – 4.30 pm

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PUBLIC TOILETS WILL BE CLOSED FROM MONDAY 2 NOVEMBER 2026 FOR FIVE WEEKS, FOR REFURBISHMENT.

Oliver’s Battery

Between Old Basing Village Hall and the Recreation Ground lies Oliver’s Battery, an area of grassland with rare plants that was once the site of a Norman castle. Today it is a favourite spot for walking and is protected as an ancient monument.

Belle Vue Play Area

Between the shops and police station, on Belle Vue Road, lies the other main recreation area, a small green spot with a children’s play area.

Broadhurst Grove Village Green

Throughout the new development at Lychpit are children’s play areas. These come under the jurisdiction of Basingstoke Council.
