HAMPSHIRE HIGHWAYS - M3 Basingstoke – Black Dam roundabout

M3 Basingstoke – Black Dam roundabout
Back in 2015 we completed improvement work to the A30/A339 Black Dam roundabout, north of junction 6. The scheme created an A339 northbound “through” carriageway with a connecting link from the A30 London Road onto the A339 northbound, as well as widening of all entry arms onto the roundabout.
Prior to these improvements, responsibility for the Black Dam roundabout was with Hampshire County Council. Before we hand the junction back to the local authority, we have some additional work which needs to be completed.
New road studs and reflective markers will be installed to provide better reflectivity at night time, renewal of road markings to provide better visibility of lanes and cutting back of overgrown vegetation to improve sightlines.
Work is currently scheduled to take place overnight (9pm to 6am, Monday to Friday only) on the following dates:
- Tuesday 3 August 2021 for one night
- Monday 23 August 2021 for four nights
- Tuesday 31 August 2021 for six nights
For the safety of our workforce and customers, we will be closing the entire Black Dam roundabout and the following approaches:
- No exit into Basingstoke or entering the M3 at junction 6
- A30 London Road eastbound approach from Hatch
- A30 Ringway South westbound approach from Old Common Road junction
- A339 Ringway East southbound approach from the town centre or Daneshill
During the closures, varied signed diversions will be in place primarily using the Ringway South/West/North and junction 7, to get to/from the M3.
Please note that these works are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. We’ll advertise the closures on yellow signs placed in advance at the junction, and on our South-East Twitter page (@HighwaysSEAST)
