Famed for its history, Old Basing in north-east Hampshire, UK, shot to national prominence in 1645 when Oliver Cromwell led his troops in the English Civil War to
end a two year siege of the great Basing House - home to the loyalist Paulet family.
Today this thriving yet still picturesque parish on the eastern outskirts of Basingstoke comprises the village of Old Basing and the newer development at Lychpit. Parish Council Calendar M3 Over Night ClosuresThe Highways Agency will be undertaking work to replace the road studs across lanes 1, 2 and 3 of the main carriageway in both directions of the M3 in Hampshire and Surrey. The works are due to start on 02 February 2012 and require full overnight closures of sections of the M3, in both directions. Each full closure will be in place (one junction at a time) in the following locations: 3-4, 4a-4, 5-6, 6-7, 9-10, 11-12, for 14 consecutive nights 10pm to 6am, when traffic flows are at their lowest. Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place. The Highways Agency would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by the works. Staffing RequirementThe Parish Council is looking for a suitably qualified Finance Officer to deal with the day to day accounts, monthly staff payroll, VAT etc., reporting to the Finance & Resources Committee and Parish Council Meetings via the Clerk. This is a part-time fixed term contractual role (approx. 20 hours per month) reviewed on an annual basis.
