New Blood on the Parish Council

Following local elections on 5 May the Parish Council is pleased to welcome two new councillors – Peter Bloyce for Old Basing Ward and Dijon van der Walt for Lychpit. Whilst welcoming new members the Parish Council must also thank those who have stood down, namely Linda Kelly, Jacqui Savage and Alan Renwick, for their work on behalf of the parish over the past 4 years. Now the election is over, we are seeking an additional councillor for Old Basing Ward and anyone interested should contact the parish office in writing.

Your Parish Councillors and their responsibilities are as follows:
OLD BASING
Peter Bloyce (Planning & Development, Communications) Sven Godesen (PC Vice-Chairman, Finance & Resources, Planning & Development, Facilities Management) Veronica Lickley (Planning & Development, Facilities Management), Nick O’Shea (Finance & Resources, Planning & Development, Facilities Management), Mark Oszczyk (Planning & Development, Communications), Stephen Marks (Facilities Management) and Betty Waller (Finance & Resources, Planning & Development, Facilities Management, Communications).
LYCHPIT
Doug Clark (Finance & Resources, Planning & Development), Keith Nuttall (PC Chairman, Finance & Resources, Planning & Development, Facilities Management), Stephen Pritchard (Finance & Resources, Facilities Management, Communications) and Dijon van der Walt (Planning & Development, Facilities Management).

In addition to the above Parish Council committees, councillors will also be actively involved with other community organisations.

PROPOSED LYCHPIT TODDLER PLAY AREA

In the April Basinga the Parish Council outlined proposals for a new toddler play area adjacent to the Lychpit Centre car park and invited local residents to make their views known during a consultation period. As a result, 28 responses against and 2 for the proposal were received. At it’s meeting on 3 May the Parish Council, after considering all the views of local residents, agreed to uphold their wishes not to proceed with the project on the proposed site. The council is still of the view that such a facility would be of benefit to the Lychpit community and welcomes any suggestions for alternative locations.

ALLOTMENTS

Allotment holders with plots in sole names are invited to change this to a joint tenancy so that in the event of the death of a spouse or partner the tenancy would automatically continue in the survivor’s name. Please contact the Assistant Clerk if you wish implement this change.

HELP FOR THE MORE MATURE DRIVER FROM HAMPSHIRE ROAD SAFETY

Hampshire County Council offers help and advice that will allow people to get the most from driving for as long as they are fit to do so. They offer a confidential driving appraisal that takes place in the driver’s own vehicle, with an assessor visiting them at home. Following the appraisal, the assessor will talk through any concerns he may have and give advice and tips on how to deal with them. A written report will follow to keep as a record. The appraisal costs £30.00. To arrange an appraisal or for further information contact road.safety@hants.gov.uk telephone 01962 846100.

Website update

Since its launch in June 2000, our website, run on behalf of the parish by the parish council, has seen visitors from Zimbabwe, Christmas Island, Peru, Brazil, China and Poland to name just a few.

The site includes information on the parish, its clubs and societies, its facilities and its council. But the time has now come to revamp and update the site and for this we need your help.
* Check the entry for your club and let us know of any change
* We need new pictures, so if you have any of the parish in digital format please email them today
* Is there anything that needs to be added to the site? What information do you seek that isn't among its many pages?

Code of Conduct

Old Basing and Lychpit parish councillors, along with all parish, town, borough, district, unitary and county councillors, are required by Parliament to sign a new code of conduct. Such a code aims to ensure the highest standards of integrity and transparency within public life. The code includes a register of interests which detail councillors personal and financial interest so it will be clear to see when any vested interests are at stake during a council discussion.
